Aaron Fleishman, Partner
We are excited to announce our latest investment in Reliant AI, a trailblazer set to revolutionize the life sciences industry with cutting-edge generative AI, founded by former research leads at Google DeepMind. Reliant AI has officially launched out of stealth with $11.3 million in seed funding, which we at Tola Capital led alongside Inovia Capital, and with additional support from prominent angel investors and AI pioneers such as Mike Volpi and Yoshua Bengio.
A Vision for AI in Life Sciences
The life sciences sector is a vast market ready for AI innovation. Traditional methods of data analysis are struggling to keep up with the surge of data from genomics, clinical trials, and other sources. The entire industry is drowning in data, with many skilled professionals spending excessive time on data management instead of solving complex problems.
Reliant AI’s technology is a game-changer, reducing data processing time from days to seconds. With their extensive AI research and domain expertise, Reliant AI is set to lead a revolution in how the industry handles information and makes critical decisions.
While we at Tola don’t invest in biotech or the pharmaceuticals themselves, we are investing in the tools to accelerate drug discovery, clinical trials, and ultimately shortening the time to get impactful new drugs to market. Beyond that, AI can help us identify and formulate new drugs to solve problems we may not otherwise have discovered. AI is transformative and we see this as a critical moment to enable the life sciences industry for the health and wellbeing of people everywhere.
Seasoned AI Founders
The founding team of Reliant AI is nothing short of exceptional, bringing together some of the most distinguished minds in the AI community. Karl Moritz Hermann, Marc Bellemare, and Richard Schlegel have collectively led pioneering AI initiatives at DeepMind, Google Brain, and EY Parthenon. Karl, who previously led the Language Understanding Research group at Google DeepMind, brings a wealth of knowledge in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and a robust entrepreneurial background, having founded Dark Blue Labs, a deep learning company later acquired by Google DeepMind. Marc Bellemare, a globally recognized Reinforcement Learning (RL) researcher, has made significant contributions to the field, including the development of deep RL algorithms at Google Brain. The team has proven themselves as leaders in NLP and RL.

When we first met the team, it was clear that together they brought together both the technical depth and domain expertise to have a real impact on this industry.
Their combined expertise and proven track record in AI innovation provide Reliant AI with a strong foundation, positioning the company to create AI-driven solutions that significantly accelerate decision-making and research.
The Future with Reliant AI
Reliant AI is on a mission to solve knowledge automation at scale, leveraging its proprietary reinforcement learning (RL) framework and large language models (LLMs).
Reliant’s first product, “Reliant Tabular”, is a powerful, state-of-the-art AI tool designed for the life sciences industry. It is already generating significant interest across key segments in the industry by enabling life science analysts to conduct automated systematic reviews, asset scans, and comprehensive analyses with unparalleled speed and accuracy. Reliant Tabular’s proprietary machine learning models are specifically optimized for life sciences topics, ensuring that nothing gets missed in the search for critical insights.
Reliant AI is set to evolve into an intelligent, agentic solution that leverages RL to interact with users, understand their needs, and improve over time.
The company’s long-term goal is to become an autonomous information agent that operates 24/7 and is always ready to assist knowledge workers.
With a presence in Berlin and Montreal, Reliant AI is expanding rapidly and will use the seed funding to expand its operations in Europe and North America. As the need for AI solutions in the life sciences industry increases, we are proud to support Reliant AI as they set a new standard in AI applications for life sciences. We are excited to see how they continue to innovate and drive the adoption of AI in the life sciences sector.
This is more than just an investment; it’s a partnership in shaping the future of life sciences.
